RSS Feeds

I had fun doing this exercise. I knew about RSS feeds and had one added and downloaded a reader once. However, this time I learned all the tricks of the trade and added numerous links to my Blogline account. I already have Google Homepage all my favorite links. So, I click each one to see what is new. I am excited to see how I will use the Blogline fees instead. Now I need to go back and add my favorite sites with RSS feeds to Blogline account. I guess this is way of saving time without having to click each site separately. Libraries are now savvy with using all types of new technologies. It is always good see what other libraries are doing using technology to reach their patrons. This could be the latest method to do library outreach! I have been asked by one of my faculty members to set up certain journal alerts for him. I am going to see whether I can set up RSS feeds instead!

About Technology

What can you do these days without "technology" being involved? Whether we like it or not we all have become "Techies"! Library card catalogs have become history, no more typewriters, journals and periodicals are going online by the day, and the entire concept of libraries have gone virtual, thanks to technology. Everyone thought with the advancement of technology things will become easy...but I think things have become more complicated and time consuming! However, it is always fun to play with technology and learn new things, because the final results could be very attractive and impressive.

Flickr Leech

First of all I hate leeches!! But I seem to like flickr leech. The reason is I can search photos on flickr.com and save time by retrieving them as a photo wall. There are several ways you can retrieve photos from flickr using leech. I like the "interestingness" search, but for other searches you need more specific information.

Monk practising advanced Mindfulness

This cat picture is from Sri Lanka. The sign reads this seat is "reserved for monks" I guess the yellow cat can be an exception, because s/he is same color as the monks!! :-D

Britney video from Lake Powell - Glenn Canyon, Arizona

This is my favorite place in Arizona. I fell in love with Lake Powell and Glen Canyon the first time I was in Page, AZ. Then I went there again several years later and took a cruise to see Rainbow bridge (not shown in the video). Next time I want to go there for a vacation on a house boat and explore Antelope Canyon (the cave that Britney is in!). It is the most amazing place...you all should go there and check it out! Let me know if you already have been there. I will post more pictures soon!!

7 and 1/2 Habits

7 and 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners

Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning
Habit 3: View problems as challenges
Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner
Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox
Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage
Habit 7: Teach/mentor others
Habit 7 ½: Play!

Habit # 1 is the most difficult for me! Because I don't finish the things I start!! I begin to learn things with such enthusiasm and gradually loose interest. However, commitment to learn things in a class setting encourages me to have an "end" to my efforts.

Habit # 7 & 71/2 probably the easiest for me! Once I am confident in something I would like to share my knowledge/skills with others. I tend to learn more by teaching to others. Playing is always fun and I love to learn all the tricks and shortcuts!
